Waffles

In this blog post I would like to share with you how I like to make very simple and easy to follow Homemade Gluten-Free Waffles. I enjoy this recipe because it only has a couple of ingredients in it, and since it is made with Oatmeal instead of Wheat Flour then (to the best of my knowledge) it is Gluten-Free.

Directions : How To Make

  1. The first thing I do is add the Dry Ingredients to my Vitamix blender jar, place the lid onto the blender jar, and then mix the dry ingredients on the blenders highest speed for about 30 to 45 seconds. This grounds up the oatmeal and sugar mixture into a fine dry powder (i.e. which I will call oat flour). While blending, I use the blender jar lids center poll to push any oats off of the side walls of the blender jar, to ensure that all of the oats get fully blended.
  2. I then pour the dry oat flour into a large mixing bowl and set aside.
  3. Using a silicone measuring cup, I microwave a stick of butter (i.e. 8 Tbsp of butter) for about 30 seconds to soften and melt it. I don't want it so hot that it is boiling though, just hot enough to soften and start to melt.
  4. I then pour the softened melted butter into the blender jar.
  5. I measure out and pour the 2 cups of Half-and-Half into the blender jar.
  6. I then add 4 eggs (minus the egg shells, of course) into the blender jar.
  7. With the lid securely on the blender jar, I turn the blender on its highest setting for about 45 seconds. This not only mixes up the web ingredients, but it also helps airate and fluff the eggs and half-and-half.
  8. I then turn the blender speed down to a low setting, remove the lid, and slowly pour in the dry ingredients. As I slowly pour the dry ingredients into the wet ingredient mixture, I use the blender jar lids center poll to help push the dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Once all of the dry ingredients is added to the wet ingredients, the blender jar will be very full.
  9. I put the lid back onto the blender jar, and then blend everything at the blenders highest speed, for about 30 to 45 more seconds, again trying to mix and airate the mixture.
  10. After turning off the blender, I then remove the lid from the blender jar, and then remove the blender jar from the blender base, and set the blender jar to the side.
  11. Since I am usually very messing, and make lots of spills, I take the time to cleanup, and put the blender base away, which makes space on the counter top for my waffle maker.
  12. I then set on the counter the following items : wet sponge, soft silicone tipped tongs, a large bowl to put the waffle into once they are cooked, and the waffle maker.
  13. I set up my Cuisinart top loading waffle maker (place it where I want it on the counter top, close it, plug it in, and then set its temperature). I usually set the temperature to level 5 (the highest level), and then wait for it to warm up. Once it warms up it beeps and its light turns green.
  14. Using the mixture cup that came with my Cuisinart top loading waffle maker (which is about 2/3 cup), I scoop out the liquid from the blender jar and then carefully and slowly pour it into the opening at the top of the top loading waffle maker. As I'm pouring the mixture in, the waffle makers light usually turns off (this is normal).
  15. I then use a moist sponge and clean up any drips I made. It is alot easier to clean the drips up while they are still wet, because once they dry it is much more difficult to clean them (take care to not burn yourself though, because the waffle maker is hot).
  16. While leaving the waffle maker on its highest temperature level (level 5), I usually let it beep twice (which is about 5 to 8 minutes) before opening the waffle maker and removing the cooked waffle. I found that by using oatmeal flour instead of wheat flour, allowing it to beep twice allows the waffle to cook all the way through, and helps the cooked waffle to be a nice light-brown color.
  17. I use the soft silicone tipped tongs to help me remove the waffle from the waffle maker, and place the waffle onto a plate or bowl. I like to use soft silicone tipped tongs because they will not scratch the waffle makers non-stick surface, and I also don't want to just use my fingers because I don't want to burn my fingertips on the hot non-stick surfaces.
  18. After removing the waffle and any large crumbs from the waffle maker, I then close the waffle maker and repeat steps 14 thru 17, until all I use up all of the blender jar mixture and all of the waffles are cooked (which for me is about 6 six inch waffles).
  19. After all of the waffles are made, I then turn the waffle makers temperature setting to one (the lowest setting), unplug the waffle maker, open it so that it cools off faster, and then just leave it alone on the counter top while it cools. After it fully cools down to room temperature, I then clean the waffle makers non-stick surfaces by wiping them clean using a moist sponge and wet paper towels.

Enjoy them as-is, or serve them with your favorite toppings : Syrup, Butter, Ice Cream, Blueberries, Strawberries, Whipped Cream, Chocolate Chips, Jelly
